Agriculture in Basilicata is the predominant sector of economic and social life of the region, almost like tourism. The region of Basilicata, in fact, for environmental and climate is an ideal place to apply a method of extensive agricultural production rather than intensive one; with special attention to the development of an internal organic farming.
What results from this type of extensive agricultural production, that takes great care of quality and is respectful of the area, is that the environment of Basilicata is still unspoilt and the natural balance is kept almost intact.
These special attention to working the land makes organic production is easily achievable, without too many problems meeting the ecological standards required by Reg. CEE 2092/91 for the processing of organic soil.
Among the typical crops of Basilicata it's impossible forget the bell pepper and red pepper.
